For more than two centuries, Santa Teresa Rum has remained in the hands of a single family. Since 1796, the Vollmer family has guided the evolution of what would become Venezuela’s oldest family-owned rum house, preserving a tradition of craftsmanship that has endured across generations. Today, that legacy continues with the introduction of Santa Teresa 1796 Irish Whiskey Cask Finish, a limited-edition expression of the brand’s award-winning, triple-aged flagship rum, bringing together two distinct traditions through shared craftsmanship.
Triple-aged using Santa Teresa’s artisanal Solera method for up to 35 years, the rum is finished in two types of casks from Teeling Whiskey: traditional American white oak and rare European oak that previously held Teeling Whiskey. The result is a layered expression that preserves the signature dry smoothness of Santa Teresa 1796 while introducing elegant notes of florals, warm spices, vanilla, aged wood and dried fruit.
The release marks a rare meeting of two historic spirits houses with deep family roots and enduring legacies whose histories have unfolded over centuries rather than decades. While Santa Teresa’s story began in Venezuela’s Aragua Valley in 1796, the Teeling family’s connection to Irish whiskey dates back to 1782. Teeling Whiskey having opened the first new distillery in Dublin in 125 years and is proudly the «World’s Most Awarded Irish Whiskey» (based on 2019-2025 World Whiskies Awards).
Though separated by geography and category, both houses have built their reputations on a shared belief: that great spirits are shaped not only by time, but by the generations who dedicate themselves to the craft. For Santa Teresa Rum, the decision to mature this expression in Teeling Whiskey casks was a natural one.
«At Santa Teresa, we remain focused on expanding our craftsmanship worldwide. This new Cask Finish embodies a spirit that seeks to offer unique, high-quality experiences to consumers. In this case, our super premium rum and Irish whiskey share a long and memorable heritage, forged through centuries of commitment, innovation, and rebellion. We are immensely proud to have achieved this union, rich in both history and purpose,» said Andrés Chumaceiro, Chief Operations Officer at Santa Teresa.
«What makes this edition unique is its additional fourth step: the rum rests for a minimum of 10 months in oak barrels that previously held whiskey from the Teeling Whiskey in Dublin. During this time, the liquid acquires deep nuances without losing the smoothness and balance that define our flagship product,» added Nancy Duarte, Master Blender at Santa Teresa.
More than a cask finish, this collaboration represents an exchange between families, philosophies, and histories. The result is an expression that reflects the character of both houses: the award-winning depth and elegance of Santa Teresa 1796, elevated by the influence of Teeling Whiskey casks while remaining unmistakably rum.
